Resolutions & New beginnings

I trust the holidays, while “different,” remained a time of peace, reflection, and thoughtfulness for you and your families. As 2020 comes to a close, this week’s Inspirational message and interpretation is one of “careful” anticipation, optimism, hope for the New Year:

“I wish for you in the new year as many new beginnings as you need and no more than you can handle. May they come not at a particular turn of the calendar page or striking of the clock, but just when you most need them.” – Robert R. Walsh

Like many of you, I’m lucky in the sense that I have an extremely supportive circle of personal and professional colleagues. Ever since the maximum telework policy became a reality back in March, we have striven to create nearly weekly opportunities to virtually re-connect, share thoughts, and reflect on where we are and where we’re going. One of the more recent topics was how we prepare for the transition from 2020 to 2021.

As we looked back on a year that nearly overwhelmed us with unprecedented challenges, many of the group were thankful that in less than a week, we’d be able to put this fateful year in the rearview mirror. And while there was a collective sense of agreement, we were also carefully aware that a mere date change would do little to assist with the herculean need to recover on so many different levels - mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. We’ve experienced fear about when and where the next “surge” may occur, uncertainty about the stability of the workplace, concern over pandemic-safe lifestyle (and quality of life) changes, anxiety of how these current challenges may exacerbate loneliness and depression, and for a few of us - irreplaceable loss of friends and family. And yet despite all of this weight, I can’t help but to believe that we have emerged stronger and more determined than ever.

I don’t know what 2021 holds yet, but I’m hopeful. I have to be – because it’s that spark in the pit of my soul that ignites my passion and allows me to keep taking that one additional step in the right direction every day. I pray that you all have a similar circle of support that is always there to pick you up and provide comfort and assistance. I also hope that you realize that there may be someone within that circle who may not be as vocal when it comes to reaching out for support and love in a time of need. We are always collectively stronger than we’ll ever be as individuals – and we can always use a little extra help. What “new beginning” can you help jumpstart in the coming year?
